About the Project
Inspired by Puccini’s little known all female opera, Suor Angelica, The Angelica Complex is a provocation into modern motherhood and the isolation of new mothers. This courageous work fuses a rich stylistic and linguistic poeticism, with a brutal twenty-first century wit that bites. The result is a transformative, if not unsettling revelation into the challenges and tensions of a woman who struggles to hold the child she loves, while holding onto her sanity.
Invisible Circus is a season of female directors which celebrates new plays, performance and provocation. Alongside fellow directors Kate Gaul and Cathy Hunt, Priscilla and her all female creative team brings Sydney audiences a new work; created in collaboration with writer Sunny Grace, physical theatre performer Kym Vercoe, with live operatic vocals by Naomi Livingston, and projection design by Velinda Wardell ACS.
